Fachhochschule Westküste University of Applied Sciences
The Fachhochschule Westküste has been an initiative of local entrepreneurs and politicians. It was founded in 1993 and startet in rented rooms. Thus, already in 1997 the first graduates left our university. In 2000 the university moved to the new buildings east of Heide. In 2008 already 400 beginners started their studies and nowadays more than 1100 are enrolled at the FHW. The Bologna process was started in 2004, the FHW has been the first university in Schleswig-Holstein that completely switched to the bachelor und master degrees. All courses are accredited in line with the Washington Accord. The FHW now has regular contacts to more than 20 universities all over the world. Furthermore the FHW sees itself as responsible for a future-oriented development of education and business, particularly in the regions west coast and Lower Elbe. She takes as an independent institution of the state influence on them relevant decisions in politics and administration. The work of FHW is funded largely by the State. The FHW conducts and promotes the acquisition of additional resources to fulfill additional tasks. The FHW is and remains a young university. It is characterised by clear structures and short distances. Their maxim is a consistent service orientation towards all internal and external customers – including students.(Source: the university’s website)

The German authorities require a minimum amount, which students must have at your disposal each month. At the moment this lies at €648 per month, which comes to a total of €7776 a year.
You do not need a visa in Germany if you are an EU national or citizen of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland.
How much am I allowed to work?
European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) nationals have the same status on the job market as Germans. You are allowed to work as much as you wish without a permit. However, you should remember that you should not work for more than 20 hours a week during the semester (the same applies to German students). Otherwise you will be required to pay pension insurance contributions. Furthermore, you wouldn’t have enough time for your studies.
