The University of Vienna was founded by Duke Rudolph IV in 1365. It is the oldest university in the German-speaking world and one of the largest in Central Europe. The University of Vienna celebrates its 650th anniversary in 2015. Currently, about 92,000 students are enrolled at the University of Vienna. They can select from 187 degree programmes: 55 bachelor’s programmes, 116 master’s programmes, 4 diploma programmes and 12 doctoral programmes.۬۬With 9,500 employees, 6,700 of who are academics, the University of Vienna is the largest teaching and research institution in Austria. The main task and goal of the University lies in generating and sustaining top-quality research and teaching, which are regarded as an inseparable entity (research-led teaching).
