University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Cluj-Napoca

“Iuliu Hatieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF-Cluj) is located in the city of Cluj- Napoca, the fourth most important city in Romania. Home to a dozen higher education institutions, Cluj-Napoca is also an important medical centre that attracts patients from across the region. UMF-Cluj employs 833 full-time academic staff members, of which 492 are women; at professoriate level, the gender breakdown is 50 per cent. In addition, 514 administrative staff members work at the university. UMF-Cluj enrols 6105 full-time undergraduates, 170 master students, 242 doctoral students and 2347 medical residents. The students are distributed across three faculties: medicine, pharmacy and dentistry. In addition to teaching in Romanian, the university offers sections in French and in English. Medicine is the largest faculty and is clearly dominant in the decisionmaking process. Dentistry is the second largest and pharmacy, the smallest faculty, is responsible for about half of the university’s research publications. (Source: the university’s website)
