Riga Technical University

Riga Technical University (RTU) is a state-founded derived public person with autonomous self-government rights. RTU Development Strategy determines the social role of the University as a tertiary education establishment and a research institution, its mission, vision, aims and tasks. The Development Strategy is based on the core values of RTU, which has been developing as a modern European multi-disciplinary technical university since 1862. Recognising the role of the University in the development of the Baltic Sea Region and in shaping the future of Latvia, the European Union priorities as well as the guiding principles set in education and innovation policy planning documents at the national and regional level have been observed formulating RTU Development Strategy. Successful implementation of RTU Development Strategy is the basis for the development of a knowledge-based society in Latvia. RTU is one of the most significant partners in ensuring the achievement of the strategic goal set in the Latvian National Development Plan for 2007-2013, namely, education and knowledge for the development of the national economy and technological excellence. (Source: the university’s website)

It is difficult to obtain a part time job without speaking Latvian. EU students are allowed to work in Latvia without any work permit.
