Kajaani University of Applied Sciences is a public utility owned by the Town of Kajaani. 3500 professionals have graduated from Kajaani UAS and are now fully involved in the working world. The University of Applied Sciences is maintained by a Board. Koy Kajaanin Pietari provides accommodation for both degree students and exchange students. Kajaani UAS international office books accommodation automatically for all incoming exchange students after accepting their application. The students coming to study for a full degree, should apply for accommodation themselves. All students studying in Kajaani can apply to Kiinteistö Oy Kajaanin Pietari for student accommodation. They offer shared accommodation and also family apartments. Some of the accommodation is located on campus and other housing is located 1 – 3 km from the UAS.

To obtain the residence permit, foreign students have to make a bank deposit of at least € 6000 for each year of studying to cover living costs in Finland. ۬Obtaining a part-time job without Finnish language knowledge is difficult.
