Many international students choose to work while living in Denmark. The kind of student job you may find if you do not speak Danish will of course be limited to jobs not requiring Danish speaking skills. These typically include: • Cleaning • Window cleaning • Restaurants and cafés • Stocking shelves in a supermarket • Newspaper distribution companies If you have special skills, like e.g. computer programming, it may be easier to find a job. Jobs can be found through local newspaper ads (some local newspapers are free, e.g. Ugeavisen Esbjerg, through specialized agencies or through other students who already have a job or who have been in Esbjerg for some time. It can be difficult to find student jobs, but it is allowed for EU nationals and non EU nationals (up to 15 hours per week). In order to apply for a residence permit for Denmark, students must document that they have paid the required tuition fee. If you have been granted a tuition waiver you must instead document that you dispose of DKK 4200 (approx. €563) per month (in all DKK 50000 = approx. €6703) by including e.g. a bank statement in your own name or documentation for a grant or scholarship.
