Brandenburg University of Technology

With 9,000 students, BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is the second largest university and the only University of Technology in the Federal State of Brandenburg. BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg sees education from a holistic point of view. Due to its transparent structure of studies that allows transition paths between different types of study courses (university and applied study courses) it is unique within the German higher education landscape. Being a rather small and young university, we have the advantage that our professors know their students well and students are in direct contact with our faculty. Our facilities are modern and have high technical qualities. In addition, we are internationally recognized, since almost 20 percent of our students come from over 100 different countries around the world. We offer eleven study courses that are entirely taught in English and a large number of double degree courses being co-organized with our international partner universities. Our forward-thinking research-orientated fields include: Energy, particularly Energy Efficiency and Sustainability, Smart Regions and Heritage as well as Biotechnology and Health. We aim at making BTU an attractive place for international researchers and students to follow their careers while at the same time helping their German peers to strengthen international ties and partner university networks. The university makes every effort to provide foreign students with accommodation in our student hall of residence on the university campus.The cost of a room in the hall of residence is €220 – €230 per month. Some single apartments are available at a cost €270 per month.

How much am I allowed to work?
European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) nationals have the same status on the job market as Germans. You are allowed to work as much as you wish without a permit. However, you should remember that you should not work for more than 20 hours a week during the semester (the same applies to German students). Otherwise you will be required to pay pension insurance contributions. Furthermore, you wouldn’t have enough time for your studies. You are not permitted to work in a self-employed or free-lance capacity, for example as a translator. (Source: DAAD)
