Sør-Trøndelag University College (HiST)
Sør-Trøndelag University College (HiST) has about 9000 students and is the third largest university college in Norway. HiST is one of the two dominant academic institutions in Trondheim. The college offers a wide range of bachelor’s and master’s programmes as well as continuing education programmes and other courses. HiSTs mission statement defines its main activity as providing programs of professional study in order to fulfill present and future needs of skills and competences in our society. Internationalisation is an integrated part of the overall strategy as laid out in the Strategic Plan 2010-2015, and it aims to strengthen and advance international cooperation with EU members and other nations through mobility of students and staff, development of joint/double study programs, R&D and other activities. Cooperation with private and public enterprises on national and international level is an important part of the strategy, as this gives impulses to the development of study programs, improves quality of teaching and research training as well as providing mentors to students. It is a strategic objective to increase the number of English taught courses within each of the main subject areas. Increasing the number of exchange students, both incoming and outgoing, is also a strategic goal, and more courses offered in English is a presupposition to reaching that goal for incoming students. Please Note. Full time students don’t usually take on work whilst studying in Norway. The Norwegian Government requires foreign students to arrive in the country with enough funds to be able to support themselves throughout the full study period.
